After ten seconds of holding my hand to the self-destruct panel, I'm sure the building blew. I don't feel it, though. I hear a woman's voice: "Take my hand."
I look up and see a woman in black holding her hand to me. She says, "It's okay, Aidan. Come with me."
I take her hand.

The next thing I know, I'm the phoenix, flying in the Umbra of San Francisco. Or something. I never did know much about Spirit.
Anyway.
I help my friends, my cabal. One of our members, Kyril, had betrayed us and sided with the vampires coming from somewhere else to beat the local vampires asses, while we were helping the locals.
My own part in this was small. My Avatar, dear Blaize, was separated from me when I died. I was the phoenix, no longer a Mage, and I mostly spied on people who didn't have the ability to see spirits, and also to find Kyril, after we realized he was the betrayer, after he had left.
I know that Kyril, as well as Kaiden, another of my cabalmates, both died. I saw to the end of the battle, and had a little longer as the phoenix afterward.
And then it happens. What feels like a great hand grabbing my tail and pulling me down to the earth. I am being dragged into the earth, clawing at the soil and screaming for help that doesn't come. Darkness surrounds me, and I don't notice when my form changes back to human form. But it is with a human voice that I scream as I hit the glass-shard sea of the Wraith-lands.

I know where I am right away. A woman's voice sounds in my head as I am cocooned and wrapped up, away from the other bodies clawing in the glass-shard sea. Not yet, she says. And a gravelly male voice sounds in my head as well. You will be mine soon.
