Unlife

When Laidey was twenty-one, some of her art appeared in a major gallery in Salt Lake City. There was a party to celebrate the showing, and Laidey made lots of useful contacts.
She also met Xander Blaise, a very talented painter, who took an interest in her.

Xander asked Laidey to model for his paintings several times, and eventually they became friends, always meeting after sundown, as Xander was somewhat nocturnal.
Xander was good about taking care of her, making sure that she got regular meals, seeing to infected cuts, and the like, because Laidey had a tendency to get absorbed into her work for days on end.
Xander always made sure Laidey had a decent place to live (he helped her to get the apartment she is living in now), but he never stayed past dawn. And while he invited Laidey over to his house very often, when dawn approached, he always left her.
Mostly, Laidey wasn't bothered by his behavior; she was often too eager to get back to his work to wonder why she never saw him during the day.

A little less than two years later, Xander explained to Laidey what he actually is (a Kindred of clan Toreador). She took it well, and six months later, on February 8, 2005, he Embraced her.

See this rose?  It means I'm prettier than you.
